Redundancy and the 2026 plan

When the new year really is a reset.

If you’re reading this, no you’re not going crazy and no it’s not the end of the month yet. 2026 is going to bring more of me to your inbox a mid month piece that is a little more focused on a single topic, or a little more broad on whats going on in my head like this one.

During the last week of November I found out that my day job as a software developer was to be no longer. To say that was a surprise is absolutely an understatement. So it has been a bit of a crazy whirlwind of phone calls and interviews in the weeks just before it all came to a screeching halt as everyone went on holiday for the end of the year. As of right now it is starting back up and the phone has been running hot which is good. More to come and hopefully a good update very soon.

This has given a bit of a jolt in other parts of our family life and a big plan to make a lot more diversification in our household. I will be keeping my day job as a software developer but I want to talk more about the branches outside of that and what I would like InsideFramelines to be in 2026.

YouTube: This is going to be the big one from my personal point of view as to where I want to put the most amount of effort. I published two videos this year and got a really good response from people in my circles and also new viewers who were incredibly nice. I have a lofty goal of publishing two videos a month which is a huge undertaking considering that is what I produced over a whole year. I am going to break that into one episode of Pixels to Paper and then one more thought out video (that’s the plan anyway). My thought process is that having Pixels to Paper as a rolling series keeps me in a flow as they’re relatively easy to film and edit so keep an eye on that coming this month.

Writing: This one surprised me as I have always wanted to write more but never felt I was very good at it and it didn’t really stick. But at the start of 2025 I spun up the idea for a newsletter. To keep it manageable and something I would keep doing I made it a once a month deal which would be a retrospective of the month just gone. This actually turned out to be something I really enjoyed making and had some great outcomes of keeping me present with things I had accomplished month to month, it can easily blur all into one when you look back on the year in total.

On top of that I wrote five seperate blog posts to the retrospectives giving me a total of seventeen written pieces for the year. I really want to keep this habit going and push further into it, the newsletter will stay with the addition of another email coming around the middle of the month that would be a more short form thought piece similar to what I love reading from the Prime Lenses Podcast newsletter.

My writing will also get more places to be with a plan to use Substack a lot more on top of publishing on the website and in the newsletter so if you prefer Substack you can head over there, or there is always the website or you can sign up to the good old fashioned newsletter

Video Editing: This one is more of the business diversification for myself, I have done a few little editing jobs for people and I love the technical parts which I know is a hurdle for some. So if you’re a maker who doesn’t like the editing part, or you want to make more and offloading the edits is a way you can focus more on that reach out, I would love to chat and see if we can work something out.

So as you can see 2026 is going to be a big and busy year, a full time job, the other full time job of being a parent, and then all the extra creative stuff. I really can’t wait to look back on this in 12 months time and see how much has been done so I hope you want to follow along as well.

Bye for now,

Tom
